Keypads are used to unlock any door equipped with electric lock, or electric power-assist motor. Additional relay may be required for power-hungry roll-up metal gates.

Output relay can be wired into ignition starter switch. Entering valid code connects the switch and automatically disconnects it several seconds after.

Many keypads can also be programmed as "toggle". Entering code turns relay on, entering code second time turns relay off. Kepad can control anything that has a switch.

DC transformer output is usually specified in voltage and current (12VDC 500mA, 12VDC 1,000mA or 1A). AC transformer output is specified in Volt-Amperes or Watts. (40 VA = 40 Watt) Current is calculated 40W / 12V = 3.33A The specified output either in Amperes, Volt-Amperes, or Watts is the MAXIMUM power output. Most new DC output transformers are built as switching power supplies with protected output. They shut down on overload or short cicrcuit but don't burn out. They recover when the short is removed. If your specifications don't call for AC transformer, DC is the better choice. Keypads, timers, relays all work on DC voltage anyway.
